A super short walk from home! Decent snorkeling on this rocky & sandy beach. This is where we are literally plugged into St Thomas so there are power lines onshore. Not dangerous, just not gorgeous. Great sunset spot!
Only accessible by a 30-minute flat(ish) hike - beautiful white sand beach. Continue on to Honeymoon Beach where snacks and drinks are available. Honeymoon will also have opportunities for a taxi ride back.
One of our favorites! The closest north shore white sandy beach accessible by car offering a beautiful snorkeling reef. Bathrooms on site. Swim over to Gibney Beach if you are feeling active!
$7 entry fee to arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Free after 4 pm.
St John's longest beach. Camping, snack bar/grill, showers, restrooms,
+ snorkeling gear rentals available.
You are almost guaranteed to see sea turtles here! Possibly a stingray or octopus if you are lucky! Snacks, paddleboards, kayaks, and a bar!
A great family beach with shaded parking. Typically less busy than others as it is the furthest north shore beach from Cruz Bay.
A 45-minute drive to the best hiking on the island, Ram Head trail begins and ends at Salt Pond Bay. The non-hikers can stay behind to swim & snorkel while the active folks get their sweat on! For snorkeling, stay to the right when facing the water in hopes to see an octopus! Rays & turtles are often spotted in the middle cruising the sandy parts.
4 wheel drive only! Located on the rugged south shore. Remote location, beautiful sand beach, sugar mill ruins + access to hiking trails.
St John's east end white sandy beach with seagrass and coral patches. Great boat watching in the bay.

Home is within walking distance to the trailhead. 30-minute easy hike out to Solomon Bay beach. Continue on to Honeymoon and back or grab a cab home!
Home is within walking distance to the trailhead. An intense hour up and back on this workout of a hike. A viewing platform at the top will take your breath away. Continue on to connect to Caneel Hill if you are feeling it!
Our personal favorite! The trailhead is just across from Cinnamon Bay beach. A tough but quick hike up to an old pink ruin that was once a plantation house. Stunning views from the top, take a dip in the ocean when you end!
The easiest walk for all levels at our most preserved sugar mill plantation. Home to a garden of every native plant species.
Continue onto Leinster Bay Trail to snorkel Waterlemon Cay, if you are up for a 30 minute walk with your gear.
A 5 minute hike up to a grassy knoll with a windmill ruin. Beautiful sunset or picnic location!
A must-do for adventure seekers! Plan a full day with a morning hike at Ram Head, followed by a snorkel at Salt Pond Bay (where the hike begins and ends), then enjoy lunch at Ms. Lucy’s or Skinny Legs in Coral Bay.
The longest ‘there and back’ hike the island has to offer. Only for active bodies! The 3 miles out is manageable but the 3 miles back is all uphill and seemingly never-ending. Worth it for the petroglyph sighting (ancient carvings) and waterfalls if we have had rain.
